Preparation of the first report on The State of the World’s Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture

CGRFA30logo_LargeAt its Eleventh Regular Session in Rome in 2007, the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture requested FAO to prepare, for its consideration at its Sixteenth Regular Session (2017), the first authoritative assessment of the state of the world’s biodiversity for food and agriculture.

The Commission stressed that this assessment would take full advantage of existing information sources and information provided by countries through the submission of national reports. Reports from international organizations, inputs from other relevant stakeholders and thematic studies will also contribute to the assessment.

A set of guidelines has been prepared for the preparation of country reports and is now available at

The process of gathering information will take place largely during the coming year (2014) and PAR looks forward in participating to this process. Some of the ways that PAR members and partners can support the process include:

  1. Supporting and participating in the preparation of country reports. (National Focal  Points so far nominated for the preparation process are listed at;
  2. Contributing in the preparation of information that will be provided by international organizations and other stakeholders;
  3. Providing suggestions on activities that PAR might support, that would help the preparation of the assessment, and the identification of activities that would strengthen the conservation and use of biodiversity for food and agriculture.
