FAO releases new "State of the world Fisheries and Aquaculture" report

The aquaculture sector is playing a very important role in global economic growth and the continuing development in fish processing and trade.  However due to the continuing global increase in energy and food prices as well as climate change, the conditions for capture fisheries and aquaculture are changing.

The report highlights the some of the important aspects of fisheries and aquaculture that have become of increasing global concern. These include climate change, use of marine genetic resources in areas beyond national jurisdiction and certification schemes in international fish trade. The report also highlights a few FAO studies such as the use of wild fishery resources as seed and feed in aquaculture, reviews of the world shrimp fisheries and the management of marine capture fisheries in Pacific Ocean.
