Research Activities: I am carrying out research in Zambia (Barotse) and South Africa with the aim to understand and analyse how small scale farming communities perceive, manage and make decisions about farming practices in an environment permeated by two different systems of maize; traditional and small scale farmer bred varieties on one hand and modern commercial (hybrids and, possibly GMOs) varieties on the other. Overall my interest lies in understanding the value and contribution of diversification as an instrument for livelihood improvement, how it supports the concepts of sovereignty and of self-determination.
