Research Activities: The goal of my work is the development of new pear scions with improved fruit quality, productivity, disease and insect resistance, and new rootstock cultivars which induce early and sustained yields and control tree vigor. I use Pyrus germplasm from Europe and China in my breeding and research programs. Research focuses on the genetic control of important traits, and modes and mechanisms of host resistance to fire blight and pear psylla. Research Activities: I am involved in the preparation and research of scientific and technical knowledge in developing genebank standards for non-orthodox seeds. Research Activities: My research focus lies in the field of plant evolutionary genetics. I am interested in the role of evolutionary processes in shaping the genetic diversity of cultivated plants and their wild relatives. Crop diversity is the result of the interactions among humans, plants, and their environments. Research Activities: Bhuwon Sthapit is currently working as a Project Coordinator of the Diversity for Livelihoods Programme at the International Plant Genetic Resource Institute.
